¿Comenzará a bajar?

Frederick Singer, former Director of the US National Weather Service.

Carl Wunsch, Professor of Oceanography at MIT.

Paul Dressen, Writer of “Green Power, Black Death”.

James Shikwati, Economist, writer.

The video summarizes the following:

Actually, CO2 is not the main cause of temperature change on Earth. CO2 is only 0.054% of the total gases in the atmosphere, and most of it is produced by volcanoes, or by detachment from the ocean. The general human being 7 Giga TM/year, but the natural causes general 200 Giga TM/year, about 30 times more.

The issue has been highly politicized. Margaret Thatcher, for example, to confront energy worker strikes, promoted the use of atomic energy, and financed studies, including the creation of the IPPC, to give force to her proposal.

At the IPPC, many of its 2,500 members are not scientists. And many appear as collaborators, even if they have critical or contrary positions. The IPPC has maintained a fundamentalist attitude, those who oppose it, do not get funding to investigate.

The issue of Climate Change has been promoted by the central countries to prevent the peripheral countries from developing, since by vetoing the use of conventional technologies (oil, coal), they condemn them to remain underdeveloped.

The theme has been taken up by anti-system, anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism activists.

The climate has always changed, throughout the history of the Earth. There have been much hotter periods than the current one.

Currently, the surface is warming more than the atmosphere, which is the part that should warm the most if the cause were greenhouse gases.

Historically, with the great industrial activity of the second half of the 20th century; the temperature of the planet decreased. And most of the warming happened before 1940.

In reality, CO2 is released from the oceans about 800 years after temperatures rise.

And the main cause of the temperature increase is the solar magnetic activity (expressed in the number of sunspots). The greater the activity, the greater the radiation (heat), but at the same time, the more cosmic radiation is blocked, which decreases the formation of clouds, and increases the heat.

Computer models are very imprecise, and sensitive to whatever parameters are used, they can be used to predict anything you want.

My opinion

Humanity, in each historical epoch, bases its visions of the world on paradigms, which are established as a collective mind: Anthropocentrism, that the Earth is flat, that the Earth is round, the theory of evolution, the Holocaust, the supposed US victory in World War II, that human society has always been the same, that nations are and should be sovereign, Climate Change, in short, powerful rationalized ideas that dominate an entire era. Some prove to be false later, others truths, but there is no doubt that in each historical period they are considered truths by the majority, even in a fundamentalist way (remember the Inquisition).

In the Subversive Ecology Course that we give in WhatsApp and Telegram, I include a chapter on the subject, with a controversial proposal that I have been proposing for years: Are they deceiving us, as Uncle Rabito (Uncle Rabbit) did with Uncle Fox and Uncle Bear?

Here is a summary of what was said in that course:

The subject is highly controversial. I wrote it years ago. It was quite criticized. I don't necessarily claim the conclusions, but I do claim the right to have my own criteria and not let myself be manipulated like Tío Rabito (we'll see it later).

The scientific method forces me to question and investigate if we are really threatening to destroy the Planet.

Facts

Increase in mean atmospheric temperature

It is clear that the average temperature of the planet's atmosphere is increasing lately.

But the atmospheric temperature is not constant in the history of the Earth.

In the last 12,000 years, for example, there have been great changes, due, of course, to natural causes.

About 12,000 years ago there was an "ice age", with an average temperature several degrees Celsius lower than the current average.

Then the temperature stabilized, and even, 6,000 years ago, there was a hot period ("warm Holocene") and 2,000 years ago, at the time of Jesus, the Earth had a hot period ("Roman Warming").

Between the 11th and 14th centuries the temperature reached higher levels than the current ones (“Medieval Warming”, almost one degree above); then there was a low for a century and even a "little ice age" in the 17th century, with several ups and downs to date.

So the constant in the environmental temperature has been the change.

In the following graph we see how the temperature of the Earth has been changing for millions of years. In previous times there have been periods as warm as now.

And in the following graph we see how in the last 450,000 years there have been periodic variations in temperature, approximately every hundred thousand years. Would we be at a peak? Will it start to go down?

It is curious that there is a cyclical behavior: every hundred thousand years it repeats itself, and it seems that now we are at a maximum, could it be that it will start to go down?

Increase in atmospheric concentration of CO2

It is clear that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has been increasing exponentially in the last 200 years, from about 280 ppm to 350. The IPCC projects that it would reach a minimum of 550 and a maximum of 1,000 by the year 2100, according to various scenarios. And it is clear that human activity is an important cause of this increase, with the current emission reaching 8,000 million MT of carbon per year.

We also see how the concentration of CO2 has varied. The following graph shows the same variation as the temperature, with the same period, in the last 400,000 years.

Also cyclically!

And definitely, from a hundred years ago, it started to go up a lot:

Positions: Environmentalists (alarmists) vs scientists (skeptics)

On the one hand, there are the "environmentalists" (as they call themselves), such as Al Gore, former US vice president, who has toured the world (actually only "developed" countries) with his show "An Inconvenient Truth”, in which he argues about what he considers to be the human causes of climate change. The IPPC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), an international organization (UN) for the study of the problem, has been identified with this “environmentalist” position. The "public" identifies this entire conglomerate with leftist positions. Opponents call them “alarmists”, since they affirm that they exaggerate their arguments, in good faith or with hidden interests.

Albert Gore, who was Vice President of the United States, calls us to suspicion. Is there anyone who has become President or Vice President of the US who has not sold his soul to the Narco-Financial and Terrorist Military-Industrial Complex since his candidacy was accepted? We are told that he stated: "Contrary to what Brazilians think, the Amazon does not belong to them, it belongs to all of us." In this regard, others have expressed: "Regarding the Amazon, it is necessary to apply the doctrine of 'limited sovereignty' and the 'right of interference'" (Francois Mitterand, President of France). Also: "Brazil must delegate part of its rights over the Amazon to the competent international organizations" (Mikhail Gorbachev, President of the USSR, who helped dismantle the Soviet system). How well the former Brazilian minister, Chico Buarque, has responded to these arguments!

On the other hand, there are the "scientists" (as they call themselves), such as Roy Spencer, Ralph Alexander, who are called skeptics by their opponents (or by themselves), who doubt the exclusivity of the human cause and investigate other possible causes. The "public" identifies them as right-wing. Unfortunately, some of these "scientists" are discredited for being highly biased in their right-wing thinking.

Causes of “Climate Change” (or global warming)

I prefer the term climate change, since temperature is only one aspect of climate.

Increase in average atmospheric temperature:

It is well known that the increase in the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere (which is a greenhouse gas) causes an increase in its temperature.

And obviously the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased in the last 200 years (due to industrialization), but let's not forget that for the Planet this is just an instant in time and the trend that it has been experiencing for millennia is the opposite, for what was adapting.

But the human contribution is of the order of only 3% of the fluxes that enter and leave the atmosphere.

An interesting fact is that the atmospheric temperature between 1950 and 1980, at the height of the industrial era of CO2 emissions, decreased instead of increasing (although this could be due to another problem: the emission of aerosols, which contribute to lowering the temperature).

But not only the increase in the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere contributes to the increase in its temperature. Solar activity is also increasing, which is evidently increasing the temperature of the atmosphere. There are measurements of 140 years (http://images.google.co.ve/imgres?imgurl=http://trabajolibre.pbworks.com/f/co2%) that show a high correlation between CO2 concentration in the atmosphere and solar activity: both have been increasing. Identification of sunspots (involving strong magnetic fields) from the last 1,200 years (http://www.newscientist.com/data/images/ns/cms/dn4321/dn4321-1_550.jpg) show a good correlation between the number of sunspots observed and the temperature readings deduced from the ice cores of Antarctica and Greenland.

There are charts comparing the correlation between CO2 and temperature (very low) and solar activity and temperature (very high) (http://onlyaliberal.com/images/co2vssunglobalwarming.jpg). In the last 600 million years, for example, there is no correlation between CO2 levels in the atmosphere and its temperature (estimated through plant fossils) (http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils /carboniferous_climete.html).

The "scientists" point out that the temperature measurements, starting in 1990, have been falsified, since as of that date a large number of ground measurement stations have been eliminated precisely in remote places where the average temperature is lower, which causes that from 1990 the estimated mean is higher. While from 1950 to 1990 there were more than 10,000 measurement stations, from that year they dropped to almost half, so the measured temperature rose an average of more than one degree due to this. On the other hand, they analyze measurements via satellites (since that technology is available) that they identify as more reliable.

In the sea there is much more dissolved CO2 (38,000 Giga TM) than in the atmosphere (750 Giga TM, 50 times less than in the sea). As the temperature of the Planet increases, the temperature of the water increases and therefore CO2 is released into the atmosphere, which constitutes an additional effect, a positive feedback. However, there is a delay of several decades or even centuries in the response, so that the current release of CO2 by the sea due to this effect corresponds to temperature increases from decades ago. The "skeptics" affirm that the CO2-temperature correlation graphs shown by the "environmentalists" correspond to this phenomenon, since this gap of a few decades is clearly seen: first the increase in temperature occurs and then the CO2 is released from the sea towards the atmosphere.

Another correlation analyzed by "skeptics" is between cosmic rays and temperature. Cosmic rays are known to influence the formation of clouds, which have a greenhouse effect. In fact, it is known by all scientists that the main greenhouse element in the atmosphere is water vapor, and not CO2 (first there is water vapor, then CO2, methane, nitrous oxide, perfluorocarbons, hydrofluorocarbons and hexafluoride of sulfur (the first three are the ones that cause a significant effect).

It is said that the prediction model of the "environmentalists" (mainly the IPCC) exaggerates the positive feedbacks and neglects the negative feedbacks of the Planet that naturally tend to counteract the harmful effects.

Science cannot yet discriminate with any certainty between human-caused and natural global warming.

Another important natural variation in the last 150 years is the magnetic moment. Until 1942 it was decreasing, and from then on it has remained constant (until 1965). The Earth's magnetic field has in fact reversed many times in the last 5 million years. These variations in the Earth's magnetic field cause greater or lesser rejection of cosmic rays (which are electrically charged particles), which form clouds (which have a greenhouse effect).

The "environmentalists" show correlation curves between atmospheric concentration of CO2 and temperature, but they do not analyze the greater correlation between temperature and solar activity. The fact that there is a certain correlation between atmospheric concentration of CO2 and temperature does not necessarily represent a cause-effect relationship. It could be that both are due to a common cause: increased solar activity, which evidently increases the temperature of the atmosphere (and of the sea a few decades later, due to inertia) and the release of CO2 from the sea once it has warmed up. This is what the “skeptics” claim the measurements show, a “correlation” that is precisely several years out of date.

Paradigms

The world civilization (capitalist or not) has a "system of thought" based on concepts that have been deeply embedded in our minds. "Thought systems" are shared ways of thinking, even more entrenched than "belief systems." One such paradigm is anthropocentrism. Despite the discoveries of physics in the last 150 years, which have investigated the Universe in its immensity outwards (13.8 billion light years) and inwards (molecule, atom, proton, quark, strings), we continue to think that we are the center of the Universe, that we have been placed here (by the god we created in our image and likeness) to “dominate” other creatures and the world.

We think that we are the strong ones and that Nature is weak, and requires our protection. Fortunately, the Spanish Empire did not manage to destroy the original civilization, which today is showing us the opposite, that we are weak (if we separate), part of Mother Earth, that she, the strong one, protects us.

From this anthropocentric conception comes the arrogant belief that we can destroy the planet. The Earth has been hit by at least eight catastrophes.

1. About 2.4 billion years ago, an oxygen-rich atmosphere appeared that made life possible as we know it today, but wiped out the single-celled beings that had dominated the planet.

2. 443 million years ago, which caused the extinction of 85% of the planet's species, possibly due to a great glaciation that covered Gondwana, which was followed by a rapid warming that again raised the water level, but left oceans poor in oxygen and rich in toxic metals.

3. 372 million years ago, 75% of all species were exterminated. It could be due to volcanism, the impact of a space object, or even to plants, because without herbivores to control their proliferation, the explosion of plant life caused a sharp drop in atmospheric CO2, which reduced the greenhouse effect, triggering global cooling.

4. 260 million years ago, massive eruptions released carbon dioxide and methane, which cause strong global warming.

5. 252 million years ago, the greatest extinction in Earth's history, possibly due to a massive volcanic event, or the impact of a space object. Extinction of more than 85% of species. Earth took 4 million years to recover.

6. 201 million years ago, it was due to a new volcanic cataclysm in the current region of the Atlantic Ocean, which wiped out 80% of the species, decimating crocodiles and mammals in particular, and allowing the dinosaurs to become in the Jurassic kings, the later period.

7. 66 million years ago, marked the end of the age of the dinosaurs, due to the impact of an asteroid about 12 kilometers with the power of 10,000 million atomic bombs. There could also be volcanic activity. It wiped out 75% of life on earth. Mammals, until then small animals that hid underground, had their opportunity to multiply, until they gave rise to human beings.

8. Now: Anthropocene, due to the human being (Or the Sun?).

And they couldn't kill the Planet, not even life! And we are going, insignificant little cosmic ants, to end the Earth! How funny! All the atomic bombs together do not reach the energy of any of these events. End the Earth! What pretense! What a boast! End life on the planet! What arrogance! End the human race! What conceit! At most I think we could end civilization, which is a fairly delicate and unstable, fragile element. The Mayans, the Aztecs, the Romans, are just examples. Perhaps the Atlanteans. If we did something really wrong, we could be left without technology, with a totally disintegrated culture, significantly diminished in number, wandering around the Planet, to begin the reconstruction of human civilization, if we learned our lesson. But until there.

Another paradigm is that technology is in itself bad for the environment, when it has been shown that it is precisely the good use of it that reverses the negative effects that a bad use could have. It is capitalist greed that is evil, that is, it is not the messenger who is to blame for bad news.

Just like these, the "Western" civilization (to which, by the way, we Latin Americans do NOT belong), has given us a series of paradigms that must be broken. Going to socialism is not only a break with the system, but with a civilizational thought scheme. That is why attempts to establish socialism have partially failed, since attempts have been made to implant it under obsolete paradigms.

Hypothesis

Do you remember the movie "Songs of the South"? Uncle Rabbit, born in the brambles, where he was comfortable, in his intelligence, when he is captured by the fox, he begs him: "Do what you want, skin me, beat me, but don't throw me into the bramble!" The fox, thinking to do him the greatest harm, then throws him into the bush. Uncle “Rabito”, enjoying himself in his thicket, pretends to scream in pain, holding back his laughter, and then jumps out, free, making fun of the clumsy fox.

Well, I think Tío Rabito is playing the same game with us, and I don't want to look like the fox in this story.

Noam Chomsky tells us about ten strategies used by the media to manipulate us. If we analyze them one by one, we can see how they apply to this case. Analyzing the first two is enough:

1. They distract us, divert our gaze. They make us believe that the problem is something else, that it is the bramble. They make us believe that we are to blame for climate change and that it is the technology we use.

2. They create problems and then offer solutions. They instill in us the fear of the "destruction" of the Planet, they create real situations of great degradation, but then they present themselves as the only possessors of the substitute technologies that will save us and their corresponding world government.

Hasn't this happened countless times in history? How did World War II (and all wars) start, if not with the creation of manipulated “information”?

I sense that many "environmentalists" are playing the game of the system and that some "skeptics" are trying to see the matter objectively. I sense that those of us who are part of the "underdeveloped world" are better served by the vision of the "skeptics" (or part of it).

How to discover the truth in this complex situation? Perhaps we have to do with John Foster Nash, Nobel laureate, who suffered from schizophrenia. In the movie "Brilliant Mind" he tells of his delusions, that he saw fictitious characters, which of course he could not differentiate from the real ones. Among the characters who harassed him was a friend with his little niece, with whom he always shared friendship. Nash refused brutalizing psychiatric treatment and tenaciously observed "his reality of him" of him. He discovered that over the years the little girl did not grow up, so he disarmed the trick in his mind, he was smarter than her. Thus, when asked if he was healed, he said: "No, I still see them, but I ignore them."

Well, we will have to discover the little girl in this whole plot of climate change. Where and who is it that is deceiving us? To ignore it. To attack it. To beat it.

Well, I refuse to accept that the "environmentalists" are necessarily the good ones, those on the left; and that the skeptics are the bad ones, those on the right.

I refuse to continue accepting the anthropocentric dogma that we are the best of creation and the Universe is at our feet. I refuse to continue in fear that we will destroy civilization, life on Earth, or the Earth itself.

I accept the degrading effect on Nature that the misuse of technology may have. But I refuse to accept that this is the main cause of global warming.

I claim our right to continue using oil and other conventional energy sources, rationally, as means of energy. As we head towards socialism, new technologies will become attractive as we replace the market (which measures everything in money) with socialist exchange (which values human needs).

I invite you to express your opinion, but, of course, with arguments.
